The History of Zeta Omicron Chapter
Many hours of
preparation culminated in the installation of Zeta Omicron chapter of David Lipscomb College on November 23, 1974. Shirley Marie Watts,
Province President, had worked closely with sixteen prospective members during
the previous year. Ruth Gould, National President of
SAI, visited Lipscomb in April of 1974 and returned in November for the chapter installation.
The sixteen charter members of Zeta Omicron chapter were Ruth Clayton Batey, Marsha Lynn Burnette, Patricia Dianne Corbitt, Kathleen Evalyn Cox, Karla W. Hagan, Joanna Marie Joyce, Karen Elizabeth Keene, Nina Elizabeth Lisby, Cynthia Jo Lyons, Mary Ann McVey, Deborah Jean Reynolds, Lisa Jeannine Reynolds, Cynthia Gale Shipman, Bobette Bonds Spear, Karen Gail Wagner, and Charlotte Ann Wilson with Minta Sue Berry, Constance Marie Fulmer, Eleanor Gibbon, and Sara W. Whitten serving as patronesses. Karen Wagner was the first chapter president.
In the early years of the chapter Phyllis Holt served as an advisor. The Phyllis Holt Scholarship, given each year by the Nashville Alumnae Chapter, is a testimony to her untiring love and devotion to each Zeta Omicron sister. She helped set the high standards that each member hopes to attain.
In the following years the chapter and its members have received a variety of awards and recognitions. President Leslie Collins received the National Collegiate Leadership Award in 1991. In the fall of 2001, Zeta Omicron chapter was honored to have Marcia Hughes selected as the Outstanding Advisor of the Year for 2000-2001. Zeta Omicron has also received the Province Chapter Achievement Award for 2003-2004 and the Most Improved Chapter Award for 2010-2011.
